Air fryer recipes, cook times and tips for crispy meals, snacks and sides.

Hi, I’m Chloe at The Crisp Basket.

This is my cozy corner of the internet for air fryer recipes that actually work on a random Tuesday when everyone’s hungry and you don’t feel like babysitting a stove.

If you grew up in or near the Midwest like I did, you probably know the kind of food nostalgia that comes with a good crunch. In my family, the deep fryer was basically a countertop celebrity. Everything tasted better deep-fried, and the crispy stuff was the “special occasion” food that somehow showed up on perfectly normal weeknights.

Then adulthood arrived: kids, cleanup, and the craving for crunch without the mess. I wanted the crispy edges without the lingering smell, or the pot of oil that makes you feel guilty for even owning it.

How I Got Into Air Frying

A few years ago, I got my first air fryer as a holiday gift. I’ll be honest, I thought it would be one of those appliances that lives in the back of a cabinet right next to the waffle iron you swear you’ll use “someday.”

Instead, I fell hard. I became obsessed with how a good air fryer is essentially a compact convection oven, and with the little details that make air fryer food go from “kind of dry” to “why is this better than takeout?”

For me, the air fryer is less about dieting and more about smart technique: dry the surface, season properly, pick the right temperature, and respect the basket (aka don’t overcrowd it, and shake or flip when needed).

And yes, I learned the hard way. Early on, I managed to explode a marshmallow in my air fryer. It was dramatic. It was sticky. It was humbling. If you’ve ever set off the smoke alarm with “just a little” cheese, you’re in good company here.

My Background

Before The Crisp Basket, I spent years working as a food stylist and recipe tester. That job trains your brain to notice everything: how moisture changes browning, how different cuts of chicken cook unevenly, and why two “identical” brands of frozen fries can need totally different cook times.

It also made me the person friends text when they’re standing in front of an air fryer basket asking:

  • “Can I air fry this?”
  • “At what temperature?”
  • “How long, exactly?”

Those group chat questions are the reason The Crisp Basket exists. I wanted one place where busy people could get reliable answers without scrolling for 20 minutes and then guessing anyway.

You’ll also see me call out the basics that help you cook safely and confidently, especially with meat and seafood. When it matters, I include safe internal temperatures and clear doneness cues, because crispy is great but properly cooked is non-negotiable.

Behind the scenes, I test recipes more than once and note the little variables that can change results, like basket size, food thickness, and whether your air fryer runs hot.

What You’ll Find Here

The mission is simple: help you make crave-worthy, crispy food with often much less oil than deep frying and way less cleanup.

Here’s what you can expect when you cook with me:

  • Tested cook times and temps. Not vibes. Not “until done.” Real numbers, plus what to look for if your air fryer runs hot.
  • Family-friendly recipes. I’m a mom of two. I love bold flavor, but I also love meals that don’t turn into a negotiation.
  • Shortcuts that make sense. Store-bought help is welcome here, especially on weeknights.
  • Crisp-first tips. When to preheat, when to flip, how to avoid soggy breading, and why overcrowding is the enemy of crunch.
  • Honest troubleshooting. Air fryers vary a lot by brand, basket size, and wattage. If a method is fussy or only works in one specific style of machine, I’ll tell you.

Crispy Without Chaos

I’m not here to make you buy a bunch of specialty ingredients or wash three extra bowls. I’m here to help you understand a few repeatable principles so you can look at what’s in your fridge and confidently say, “Yep, we can air fry that.”

Most of my recipes focus on:

  • Weeknight mains (think chicken, shrimp, pork chops, and quick burgers)
  • Snacky things (the kind you eat while packing lunches)
  • Crispy sides (potatoes, veggies, and the frozen aisle heroes)
  • Leftover upgrades (because the air fryer is basically a second chance machine)
